An Introduction to Bend Petography

Hello everyone. Thanks for your interest in Bend Petography.
Through photography, I celebrate animals, domestic animals, dogs, cats, horses, and the people that are bonded with these animals. I believe that we can learn a lot about ourselves by looking at the animals we keep. My effort is to document human culture by photographing pets.

Animal lifestyle photography -- pets do live a lifestyle, in their play, in their handling, in the jobs they perform and the little things they do. We run with our dogs, share quiet moments with our cats, and round-up livestock with our horses. We work avalanche rescue and police dogs. We visit hospitals and hospice houses and school groups with therapy dogs certified by the Delta Society. We are dog people, cat people, and we are horse people. Our pets are apart of our lifestyle. I strive to tell your story by looking to your pets. "Your best friend is our focus!"® My lifestyle photography is photo-journalistic in nature, telling the story of your pets. It is a behind-the-scenes approach.

Pet portraiture -- I avoid posing your pets, but do try very hard to isolate the personality of your pet by using studio lighting and minimalistic props and backdrops. We have all seen the campy pictures of dogs and cats composed with cheesy props and sold on generic greeting cards. These tell nothing about that living creature depicted. Though "cute," these pics don't do a thing for me. So I don't take those types of pictures. During the photo session, I let the animal do its thing, jump, lick, eat, bark, sleep, play. I give few commands but do encourage your pets to remain happy and cooperative.
People are animals, too. I encourage you and your family to be part of your pet's portrait. After all, your pet is an extension of you. This is the story I tell in my portraiture.

Specialty Events -- the behind-the-scenes style is my great passion; however, I do work as the official photographer for specialty events such as shows and agility trials. You and your pets are competitive, and you want that winning moment captured. Bend Petography is there for you.

Dogs, cats, and horses; what about kids, weddings, etc?

"Etc." Yes, there are so many things to photograph. There are so many people now who share their world from behind the lens. I love what I have been seeing with nature photography and wildlife. There is a lot of good architecture photography, and child portraits. And some pretty amazing wedding photographers are running around out there doing quite well. I'm blown away by abstracts and surreal subjects that are out there. Etc, etc...
What I photograph is what fascinates me -- domestic animals. I photograph those creatures who greet us with wagging tails. Those creatures who we must communicate more with non-verbal than verbal communication to be honest. I photograph those creatures who depend on our love and attention and who are more than willing to give us their entire love.
I photograph pets. If kids don't distract from the session, I'll photograph them, too. Every weeding I have shot has included pets in some part of the ceremony.
